DESCRIPTION:
Explore and bird this internationally significant area which contains the largest remaining area of lowland rainforest in Australia and the heath-covered Tozer Range, which rises 543 m above sea level. It is surrounded by drier eucalypt and paperbark forest. The rainforest is a refuge and stronghold for birds also found in New Guinea, but with a restricted distribution in Australia. We also explore the Chilli Beach and Portland Roads areas.
This tour is run in late January to avoid the crowds and still see the migratory birds from PNG and summer breeding events and gives you the best possible chance to view the beautiful Papuan Pitta.

BIRD HIGHLIGHTS:
We search for the vibrant Eclectus Parrot, which lives only in the Iron and McIlwraith ranges between the Pascoe and Rocky rivers, the raucous Palm Cockatoo and the Magnificent Rifle-bird. Papuan Pitta on there summer visit from PNG are also on the list as well as Red-cheeked Parrot, Marbled Frogmouth, Magnificent Riflebird, Fawn-breasted Bowerbird, Frilled-necked Monarch, Trumpet Manucode, Northern Scrub-robin, White-faced Robin, Spotted Whistling-Duck, Yellow-billed Kingfisher, Yellow-legged Flycatcher, White-streaked Honeyeater, Tawny-breasted Honeyeater, Green-backed Honeyeater, Tropical Scrubwren and many more. We also search for the Green Python and the Common Spotted Cuscus.
