statement, NPARC said, “Travel TO and FROM the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) is to be restricted effective immediately (16 March 2020).” It goes on to say that “Only essential or urgent outwards and inwards travel will be permitted as determined by the carriers – each of whom have set their own criteria”. Further to this, after reviewing the Regional Express (Air) and Sea Swift (Sea) carrier websites, both have confirmed they are limiting travel into NPARC, and that ‘non-essential business travel has been suspended’.

Bird the northern most tip of Australia, Cape York north of the Jardine River, Bamaga, Lockerbie Scrub by 4 wheel drive and visit two uninhabited offshore islands by boat. We will also visit the tip of Cape York – the northern most point of mainland Australia.


Bird Highlights:

Red-bellied/Papuan Pitta, Palm Cockatoo, Marbled Frogmouth, Magnificent Riflebird, Fawn-breasted Bowerbird, Frilled-necked Monarch, Trumpet Manucode, Northern Scrub-robin, White-faced Robin, Spotted Whistling-Duck, Yellow-billed Kingfisher, Yellow-legged Flycatcher, White-streaked Honeyeater, Tawny-breasted Honeyeater, Pale White-eye, Yellow White-eye, Mangrove Golden Whistler, Tropical Scrubwren and many more.


This tour is run in late December to coincide with the arrival of the PNG migratory birds and summer breeding events and gives you the best possible chance to view the beautiful Papuan/Red-bellied Pitta.


Accommodation is at the Cape York Peninsula Lodge in deluxe en-suit, air-conditioned rooms. Your tour includes return airfares from Cairns airport to Bamaga, air-conditioned accommodation, four wheel drive hire, boat trips and all meals. This is a tour tailored to your taste and budget. We explore the bird life of the wet tropics with the emphasis on the 12 endemic birds. We can include a 2 hour Daintree River dawn cruise to seek out the Great-billed Heron or a visit to Etty Bay to observe the Cassowary. We can visit the Atherton Tablelands, Julatten, Daintree, Mareeba, Cairns Esplanade, Cattana Wetlands, Lake Mitchell and the famed Mt Lewis. Spotlighting for owls and nocturnal  mammals and birding and snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef are also optional extras that can easily be included.
